LG Expands Its Gram Laptop Lineup with New AI Features
LG has unveiled enhancements to its ultra-light Gram and Gram Pro laptops, integrating both cloud-based and on-device artificial intelligence capabilities designed to elevate user experience beyond the existing models.
The newest addition, the 16-inch Gram Pro, marks a significant milestone as it becomes the first device in the LG Gram series to incorporate the Copilot Plus functionality. Notably, this model is the sole one in the lineup to utilize the advanced Intel Lunar Lake Core Ultra V-Series processors, providing improved performance. On the other hand, both the 17-inch Gram Pro and the 16-inch 2-in-1 variations leverage Intel’s Arrow Lake Core Ultra H-Series processors, offering a balance of functionality and power.
The LG Gram Pro lineup includes multiple variants, featuring both traditional and 2-in-1 designs.
Each of the new Gram Pro models is equipped with high-resolution 2,560 x 1,600 displays and can support configurations of up to 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM alongside up to 2TB of Gen4 NVMe SSD storage. The graphics capabilities are also tailored to the models; the 16-inch Gram Pro and its 2-in-1 counterpart will be powered by Intel Arc GPUs, whereas the 17-inch version is equipped with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 graphics card, catering to different user needs.
A standout feature, known as Gram Chat On-Device, is powered by a compact language model derived from LG AI Research’s EXAONE, facilitating several offline tasks. Among these is the innovative ‘Time Travel’ function, which enables users to easily access their recently viewed web pages, documents, videos, and audio files, enhancing productivity and workflow efficiency. LG’s software is introducing tools reminiscent of Microsoft’s Copilot Plus suite and Apple’s intelligent offerings, though industry observers will be monitoring the effectiveness of these functionalities given Microsoft’s mixed results with similar features.
The introduction of AI features may extend across a broader range of new PCs, yet LG has not yet detailed which specific AI capabilities will be implemented across the newly launched Gram models.
For cloud interactions, LG offers Gram Chat Cloud, powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4o. This functionality allows users to receive detailed answers to inquiries based on extensive web data and integrates seamlessly with calendar and email systems. However, continuous usage requires an internet connection, and it will be complimentary for the first year post-launch.
Additionally, all new Gram laptops will support LG’s Gram Link 2.0 technology, which simplifies document and file sharing between PCs and iOS or Android mobile devices. This feature also allows users to handle incoming calls through their Gram laptops, eliminating the hassle of switching between devices for communication.
In a further expansion of its product range, LG plans to launch its entry-level Gram Book in the United States next year. Featuring an Intel Core i5 processor, this laptop will boast a 15.6-inch full HD display at 60Hz, a 720p webcam, and options for storage configurations of up to 1TB SSD and 16GB DDR4 RAM, catering to consumers seeking a more budget-friendly yet capable device.
