In recent discussions, several commentators from liberal media have criticized the supporters of President-elect Donald Trump as he prepares to take office once again.
Rick Wilson, a founder of the Lincoln Project, expressed his views on MSNBC, emphasizing the prevailing mindset among a significant portion of Trump’s base, particularly among non-college-educated voters. He suggested that these individuals often equate terms like “immigrant” or “visa” solely with negative connotations regarding race.
Wilson’s remarks came amid a broader conversation regarding the H1-B visa program, which facilitates the employment of skilled workers and which Trump has utilized in his businesses. He used the example of a stereotypical Trump supporter to illustrate his point, positing that the perception among some is that they have been unjustly sidelined in the job market due to policies related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as immigration.
Around the same time, Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin, former CNN correspondent Don Lemon, and MSNBC commentator Eddie Claude Jr. joined in the discourse about Trump’s supporters and the implications of their political ideology.

During a recent event at the 92NY Center for Culture & Arts, Rubin critiqued the media’s approach to engaging with Trump’s allies. She remarked, “People often wonder why the media plays it safe. They believe that shifting slightly rightward could attract MAGA readers to the Washington Post, a notion she finds fundamentally flawed.”
In a column published on Dec. 23, Rubin warned against attempts to find common ground with Trump supporters, asserting that such efforts are likely to be futile.
Lemon, on his show, harshly labeled Trump supporters, referring to them as “dumb f—ing idiots” and ridiculed what he termed their “stupid MAGA brain.” His comments implied a deep frustration with what he perceives as ignorance among these voters.

He further stated that MAGA supporters were essentially part of a “cult,” questioning their level of intelligence and expressing disdain over their political choices.
Additionally, Claude outlined a view that identifies hatred, selfishness, and greed as foundational elements of Trump’s political movement. He contrasted this with the approach taken by Ronald Reagan, who he claimed skillfully balanced various aspects of conservatism.
During Monday’s segment, Claude discussed how the current Republican Party embodies corporatism, libertarianism, and nativism, reflecting on how these forces shape modern GOP activism.
Both Nicolle Wallace, also of MSNBC, and Claude emphasized the importance of understanding these dynamics as central to dismantling Trumpism, asserting that greed and hatred are overtly displayed in its ideology.
In a related note, President Biden categorized Trump supporters as “garbage” during a campaign event for Vice President Kamala Harris in October, although this subsequently prompted attempts at clarification from the administration.
