Lil Wayne Shines at SNL 50th Anniversary Special

During a historic celebration that marked a milestone for the iconic television show, Lil Wayne delivered an electrifying performance during the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary special, aired live on Sunday. While it wasn’t the Super Bowl day he had hoped for, the rapper captivated audiences, proving his enduring popularity and stage presence.

Accompanied by the legendary band the Roots, Lil Wayne unleashed a dynamic medley that highlighted some of his most beloved tracks. The New Orleans native energized the crowd with infectious songs such as “Uproar,” “Lollipop,” “6 Foot 7 Foot,” “Mrs. Officer,” and concluded his set with the fan-favorite “A Milli.”

This standout performance comes on the heels of Wayne’s announcement regarding the highly awaited Tha Carter VI, set to release this summer. Just days before the Super Bowl, which he expressed a desire to perform at but ultimately left behind to support Kendrick Lamar, Wayne hinted at a significant revelation. Shortly after, he confirmed the release date for his new album, arriving on June 6, through an innovative Cetaphil commercial titled “We’re all a lil Sensitive.” This clever promotion reflected both his playful personality and his earlier disappointment in not being selected to headline the Super Bowl halftime show.

The SNL50: The Anniversary Special featured an impressive lineup of musical guests who contributed to the evening’s celebratory atmosphere. Sabrina Carpenter and Paul Simon kicked off the festivities with “Homeward Bound.” Later, Miley Cyrus, Brittany Howard, and the Roots paid homage to the late Sinead O’Connor with a poignant rendition of the iconic “Nothing Compares 2 U,” originally written by Prince. The night concluded with a performance from Paul McCartney, who presented a medley of classic hits, including “Golden Slumbers,” “Carry That Weight,” and “The End,” leaving the audience with a memorable retrospective on the show’s rich musical legacy.
