Real Women Have Curves: A Broadway Journey
Last evening, Real Women Have Curves celebrated its third Broadway preview, attracting notable guests including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Luis Miranda, Gina Rodriguez, and Lyrik Cruz, who participated in a backstage meet-and-greet with the cast following the performance.
After receiving praise during its debut at Harvard University’s American Repertory Theater, Real Women Have Curves: The Musical, adapted from Josefina López’s original play and the hit HBO film, commenced its preview performances on April 1 at the James Earl Jones Theatre, with an official opening night set for April 27.
This vibrant production, Real Women Have Curves: The Musical, combines humor and empowerment through the story of Ana Garcia, a young woman with dreams of escaping her life in East Los Angeles. Faced with a crucial order of 200 dresses, Ana navigates her dreams, her mother’s aspirations, and the collective struggles of a community of women determined to succeed against all odds. This narrative, rooted in the writer’s own experiences, highlights resilience and the pursuit of identity, resonating with audiences both old and new.
