About the Show
The beloved musical LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS features a book and lyrics crafted by the acclaimed Howard Ashman, combined with music from the distinguished Alan Menken, both of whom are recognized with Grammy and Academy Awards. This production, which has won multiple accolades including the 2020 Drama League, Outer Critics Circle, and Drama Desk Award for Best Musical Revival, is helmed by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer.
The revival commenced previews at the Westside Theatre on September 17, 2019, captivating audiences and critics alike upon its opening on October 17, 2019.
The story centers on Seymour, a florist facing numerous challenges, who harbors romantic feelings for his co-worker, Audrey. An unexpected discovery of a peculiar and insatiable plant thrusts Seymour and Audrey into a thrilling confrontation that may ultimately decide the survival of humanity. Originally debuting Off-Broadway in 1982, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS has since become a cultural touchstone, eliciting laughter and suspense while leading many to reconsider their gardening habits. The musical has enjoyed worldwide popularity, with performances extending from Broadway and London’s West End to various locations in Asia and Australia. Additionally, it inspired a successful film adaptation in 1986, directed by Frank Oz and featuring Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, and Steve Martin.
