Sony unveiled the Xperia 1 VI in May 2024, featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC and a trio of rear cameras. Now, the company seems to be preparing for the launch of the Xperia 1 VII, intended as the successor to last year’s model. Recent findings on Taiwan’s National Communications Commission (NCC) website have revealed details about the upcoming device, including its design and available color options. This model is associated with the identifier XQ-FSxx. The online visuals indicate a setup that includes three cameras at the back and a headphone jack.
Design Features of the Sony Xperia 1 VII
The Japanese site Sumaho Digest published live images of what is purported to be the Sony Xperia 1 VII. These images, believed to be taken from the NCC, showcase the phone in black, navy green, and purple finishes. In contrast, the previous Xperia 1 VI was offered in Black, Platinum Silver, and Khaki Green.
The leaked visuals suggest that the Xperia 1 VII maintains a similar aesthetic to its predecessor. A triple rear camera configuration is evident, with the sensors vertically aligned on the back. Notably, the headphone jack, a feature also found in the Xperia 1 VI, is prominently visible in these images.
It appears that the main rear camera, positioned centrally, will utilize an Exmor-T sensor. The device is designated with the model number XQ-FSxx.
According to reports, the dimensions of the Sony Xperia 1 VII will be approximately 165mm in height and 74mm in width, potentially making it slightly longer than the 162mm tall Xperia 1 VI, which shares the same width.
Earlier leaks suggested that the Xperia 1 VII will continue to feature the same 6.5-inch display as its predecessor, retaining substantial bezels at both ends. This model is anticipated to be the first Sony smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.
The Xperia 1 VI, which debuted in May 2024, had a starting price of EUR 1,299 (about INR 1,17,400) for the variant with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC and includes a triple rear camera system consisting of a 48-megapixel primary Sony Exmor T sensor, a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 12-megapixel zoom camera. For selfies, it features a 12-megapixel front camera, and the device is equipped with a robust 5,000mAh battery that supports 30W fast charging.
