Lizzo recently expressed her views on President Donald Trump’s economic strategies during her appearance on Saturday Night Live on April 12. The singer wore a striking black T-shirt emblazoned with the word “TARIFFIED” in bold red, a pointed commentary on Trump’s introduction of a significant 145% tariff on imports from China.
As the musical guest for the episode hosted by Jon Hamm, Lizzo seized the opportunity to promote her highly anticipated fifth album, Love in Real Life, which remains without a specified release date. This performance marked her fourth guest appearance on the beloved sketch show, having previously hosted an episode in 2022.

During her opening performance, Lizzo showcased her talents alongside a trio of backup singers and an electric guitar, performing a lively medley that included “Love in Real Life” and “Still Bad.” After impressively riffing on the guitar, she joined a group of dancers clad in black to elevate the vibrant atmosphere of her performance, all while proudly wearing her politically themed shirt.
In another standout moment of the show, Lizzo captivated the audience with her rendition of “Don’t Make Me Love You,” a song expected to be part of Love in Real Life. Embracing an ’80s aesthetic, she dazzled attendees in a glittering gold dress, her hair dramatically blown by wind machines as her powerful vocals resonated throughout the studio.
Recently, Lizzo announced via Instagram that her album, Love in Real Life, is finished. In a playful post featuring a photo of herself in the studio, she shared, “ALBUM IS DONE YALL!” She humorously added, “ASTROLOGY EXPERTS Do my mercury got micro braids? Cus I got an emergency root canal, announced SNL & finished my album all in one day today,” illuminating her busy schedule.
To date, Lizzo has released two tracks from the forthcoming album: “Still Bad” and the title track. Aside from her contribution to the 2023 Barbie soundtrack with the song “Pink,” these singles represent the first major releases from her since her critically acclaimed 2022 album Special, which achieved a remarkable No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and produced the chart-topping hit “About Damn Time.”
