The artist has recently shared a brief 15-second clip that may indicate the arrival of her first album since the 2021 release of Solar Power.
After clearing her social media presence and website, Lorde utilized this fresh start to hint at new music, generating excitement among fans.
On April 9, she posted a video on TikTok featuring her stroll through Washington Square Park in New York City. The accompanying soundtrack suggested a potential return to her darker synth-pop influences, contrasting with the more sun-kissed aesthetic of Solar Power.
The lyrics she shared reflect her signature style — personal and direct, with a touch of assertiveness: “Since I was 17/I gave you everything/Now we wake from a dream/Well baby, what was that?”
It has been nearly four years since the release of Solar Power, which debuted in August 2021 and was notable for being Lorde’s first full-length album since 2017’s critically acclaimed Melodrama. The anticipation for new material has been palpable since last summer, spurred by a series of intriguing updates. These included elusive messages about her evolving creative direction, a sample of new music, and a post from producer Jim-E Stack that hinted at his collaboration with Lorde in the studio.

Since the release of Solar Power, Lorde has only put out a few tracks, including a cover of “Take Me to the River” for last year’s tribute album to the Talking Heads, titled Everyone’s Getting Involved. Earlier this year, she collaborated with fellow New Zealand musician Marlon Williams on the song “Kāhore He Manu E,” which is featured on Williams’ first Māori language album, Te Whare Tīwekaweka, released just last week.
Most notably, last summer, she contributed to the remix of Charli XCX’s “Girl, So Confusing,” a track that achieved recognition by reaching Number Nine on Rolling Stone‘s list of the 100 Best Songs of 2024. The song is included in Charli’s deluxe album Brat and it’s the same but there’s three more songs so it’s not, and the two artists performed it live at Charli’s concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
