Lorde Announces Upcoming Album: Virgin
Lorde has revealed her much-anticipated fourth studio album, titled Virgin. Set to be released on June 27, the album will be available through Republic Records. Fans can view the album cover below.
This announcement follows the recent release of her comeback single “What Was That,” a collaborative effort featuring contributions from Jim-E Stack, Daniel Nigro, and others. This track is among the 11 songs included in Virgin.
Lorde took an active role in the album’s production alongside Jim-E Stack, with notable contributions from other artists such as Nigro, Fabiana Palladino, Andrew Aged from Inc. No World, Buddy Ross, and Devonté Hynes of Blood Orange. The mixing was handled by Spike Stent and Tom Elmhirst, while Chris Gehringer managed the mastering process.
In a heartfelt message to her fans, Lorde shared her thoughts on the new album:
“THE COLOUR OF THE ALBUM IS CLEAR. LIKE BATHWATER, WINDOWS, ICE, SPIT. FULL TRANSPARENCY. THE LANGUAGE IS PLAIN AND UNSENTIMENTAL. THE SOUNDS ARE THE SAME WHEREVER POSSIBLE. I WAS TRYING TO SEE MYSELF, ALL THE WAY THROUGH. I WAS TRYING TO MAKE A DOCUMENT THAT REFLECTED MY FEMININITY: RAW, PRIMAL, INNOCENT, ELEGANT, OPENHEARTED, SPIRITUAL, MASC.”
“I’M PROUD AND SCARED OF THIS ALBUM. THERE’S NOWHERE TO HIDE. I BELIEVE THAT PUTTING THE DEEPEST PARTS OF OURSELVES TO MUSIC IS WHAT SETS US FREE.”
Despite the release of her last album, Solar Power, in 2021, Lorde has kept her artistic presence alive by releasing various visuals, including music videos for “Oceanic Feeling” and “The Path.” She also produced an EP featuring re-recorded Solar Power songs in Māori.
In addition to her album work, Lorde has engaged in various projects such as a conversation with Hunter Schafer on The A24 Podcast, the launch of a Sonos radio station called Solarsystym, and a cover of Rosalía’s “Hentai.”
More recently, she lent her voice to a rendition of “Take Me to the River,” collaborated with Charli XCX on “Girl, So Confusing Featuring Lorde,” and worked with Marlon Williams on “Kāhore He Manu E.”
