The Matrix Airfare Search by ITA Software lists fares starting at $709 for Basic Economy tickets. However, utilizing dates on the American Airlines website may yield a lower fare of $509 for Basic Economy and $709 for Regular Economy options.
The $709 fare offered by American, British Airways, Finnair, and Iberia includes one checked bag and a standard carry-on. In contrast, the $509 fare, categorized as Basic Economy or Economy Light, comes with several restrictions:
- Seat assignments cannot be made in advance.
- Checked bags come at an additional cost of $75 for the first bag and $100 for the second.
- Changes to booking are not permitted.
- Cancellations are not allowed, which means if you cancel after the initial 24-hour window, the fare will hold no value for future travel.
It is worth noting that many online travel agencies may not accurately display these Basic Economy fares for these airlines.
Starting from January 8, 2025, travelers will need to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for entry into the United Kingdom, costing £15 for a validity of two years. While transiting through the UK may not require an ETA if you remain airside, passing through UK border control will necessitate this document.
