Fire Forces Evacuations and Road Closures in Shasta Community
A significant fire erupted on Saturday in the region west of Redding, prompting mandatory evacuations and multiple road closures affecting the historic community of Shasta and neighboring areas. Highway 299 remains closed in both directions as firefighting efforts are underway.
The blaze ignited near Lower Springs Road and Eureka Way in Shasta, expanding rapidly to cover 110 acres by 7:30 p.m. on the same day.
The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office has issued evacuation orders for much of Shasta. Additionally, evacuation warnings have been extended to the Keswick area to the west and north. To view a map detailing the evacuation zones, click here.
Traffic restrictions include closures on the following roads:
- Highway 299 at Buenaventura Boulevard
- Highway 299 at Rock Creek Road
- Iron Mountain Road at Keswick Dam
- Lower Springs Road at Swasey Drive
- Swasey Drive at Placer Road
- Swasey Drive at Red Bluff Road
