Luar Pop-Up: A Fusion of Intention and Attitude
What defines a successful pop-up? It’s a blend of intention, spectacle, and an undeniable attitude. “I aimed to create a charming New York experience, giving kids the chance to explore and curate their summer looks,” shares Raul Lopez, just days before his brand’s pop-up shop opened at the WSA building, a favorite among fashion enthusiasts.
Stepping into the building’s vibrant ruby-red carpet space reveals a world crafted specifically for Luar’s unique audience. A deep purple-themed room showcases bags in a variety of sizes and hues displayed on wall shelves, alongside shimmering jewelry set against bedside tables by mirrored surfaces. An elegantly styled Luar ensemble drapes across violet sheets, creating an ambiance that feels more like a shrine than a simple arrangement.
The collection features Luar’s signature Ana bags offered at special prices, alongside runway pieces from previous seasons and timeless ready-to-wear items. A limited-edition tank top humorously declares, “I talk shit about you in Spanish.” Additionally, shoppers can find the brand’s inaugural shoe collection, including luxurious flat Oxfords and an Oxford-inspired mule adorned with a striking silver “L” insignia.
At the opening, artist and author Kim Hastreiter made an appearance, showing her support for Lopez while exploring various styles with her shopping companion, a dog named Polyester.
“I’m genuinely impressed by everything he’s accomplished. It’s evident that New York embraces him wholeheartedly,” she remarked, donning a sharply tailored black overcoat, a stunning piece she did not hesitate to take home.
“I love the energy here!” Lopez exclaimed, enjoying the atmosphere. “The girls are snapping pictures, shopping, and fully engaging with the experience.”
Beaujangless was the host of the lively opening night reception.
Adding to the ambiance, DJs Kristy Baez, Rae Sada, and Elvin Tavarez, all friends of the brand, curated an eclectic mix of sounds ranging from rhythmic reggaetón to captivating house beats. Their music transformed the event into a vibrant acoustic journey, seamlessly blending with conversations and shopping sprees. Guests enjoyed refreshing Cara Cara Orange and Sweet Pineapple cocktails from Two Robbers, as daytime interactions evolved into a festive evening atmosphere.
Outside, the music flowed onto the streets, creating an inviting environment where guests exchanged notes about their discoveries. “Luar has a knack for creating an unforgettable ambiance,” commented Waldo Baez, a shopper who picked up a stylish pair of sunglasses. “Experiencing the brand in this setting was truly special.”
As the evening progressed, attendees agreed on one thing: the allure of the event lay not only in the products or their attractive pricing but in the immersive experience of Luar’s captivating world. This raises the question: could this pop-up be an indication of the brand seeking a more enduring retail presence?
