Upcoming Release of “After the Hunt” Starring Julia Roberts

Amazon MGM has officially announced that the psychological drama “After the Hunt,” directed by acclaimed filmmaker Luca Guadagnino and featuring Julia Roberts, is set for release during the competitive awards season. The film will make its debut in select theaters on October 10, 2025, before rolling out to a broader audience on October 17.

This highly anticipated film will open alongside two significant competitors: Blumhouse’s “The Black Phone 2,” featuring Ethan Hawke, and Lionsgate’s R-rated comedy “Good Fortune,” which stars Aziz Ansari, Keanu Reeves, and Seth Rogen.

In addition to Roberts, “After the Hunt” boasts a talented cast that includes Ayo Edebiri, Andrew Garfield, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Chloë Sevigny.

The screenplay for the film is penned by debut writer Nora Garrett, who also acts as an executive producer. “After the Hunt” follows the story of Roberts’ character, a college professor facing a pivotal moment in her life when her star pupil, portrayed by Edebiri, levels serious allegations against a fellow educator played by Garfield. Complicating matters, a buried secret from her past resurfaces, jeopardizing her career and personal life.

The film is produced by Allan Mandelbaum, who played a vital role in bringing the project to Imagine. He worked closely with CAA to secure both Guadagnino and Roberts for the project. The production team includes Guadagnino through his Frenesy banner, along with Jeb Brody and Brian Grazer. Additionally, Karen Lunder, Justin Wilkes, and Alice Dawson from Imagine serve as executive producers.

“After the Hunt” underscores the ongoing collaboration between Amazon MGM and Guadagnino, following their previous project, “Challengers,” starring Zendaya, which released last year. Prior to Amazon’s acquisition of MGM, Amazon Studios was responsible for the 2018 remake of Guadagnino’s “Suspiria,” while MGM released his 2022 film “Bones and All” under the United Artists banner.
