Luka Dončić Contributes to Restoration of Kobe and Gigi Bryant Mural
Luka Dončić, renowned for his skills on the basketball court with the Los Angeles Lakers, is also demonstrating his commitment to the community off the court. Recently, he made headlines by fully funding a GoFundMe campaign aimed at restoring the Kobe and Gigi Bryant mural in downtown Los Angeles, which had been vandalized.
The uplifting mural, created by Louie “Sloe” Motion, was established as a tribute to the late NBA legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gigi, after their tragic passing in a helicopter crash in January 2020 that also claimed the lives of seven others.
Footage from Tuesday captured the mural, which unfortunately was covered in graffiti, prompting the community’s response to restore it. The GoFundMe campaign sought a total of $5,000 for the restoration and, according to reports from KTLA, Dončić generously contributed the entire amount.
In the midst of his compassionate gesture, Dončić is also focusing on the challenges faced by the Los Angeles Lakers in their playoff series. Following a close 116-113 defeat to the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 4, the team finds itself in a precarious position, trailing 3-1 in the series. A single loss could mean elimination from the playoffs.
Throughout the playoffs, Dončić has been a remarkable player, averaging 30.8 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists per game, while clocking in an average of 42 minutes on the court. Head coach J.J. Redick is relying heavily on his starting five to carry the team, but the Timberwolves, led by star player Anthony Edwards, present a formidable challenge due to their deep roster.
As the series moves toward its critical Game 5, scheduled for Thursday in Los Angeles, both Dončić and the Lakers are under pressure to perform. The outcome of the game could shape the trajectory of their playoff aspirations.
