Lyft has introduced a new tool called “Earnings Assistant,” designed to assist drivers in maximizing their productivity while on the road. This AI chatbot features help drivers create optimized plans informed by factors such as airport arrivals and local events. Jeremy Bird, Lyft’s Executive Vice President of Driver Experience, shared these insights in an email to The Verge.
The Earnings Assistant is currently in its early access phase, requiring drivers to sign up for a waitlist for usage. Once access is granted, drivers can utilize the tool for reminders and seek recommendations on where to drive next if they are uncertain.
In a demonstration of the tool’s capabilities, Lyft outlined a scenario where a driver requests a plan for a five-hour timeframe in San Francisco, concluding at a specified location in Oakland. The Earnings Assistant then generates a visual schedule that includes the driver’s planned route and highlights optimal times, referred to as “Turbo” times, when driver earnings are likely to be higher.
Lyft emphasizes that this initiative complements other recent enhancements, such as updates to the Lyft Rewards program and the introduction of a “Driver Accomplishment Letter.” This latter feature leverages AI to produce a personalized document summarizing the driver’s performance with feedback from riders.
