Malavika Mohanan Critiques Male Actors For Their Public Feminism and Addresses Cultural Obsessions

Malavika Mohanan is set to appear alongside Prabhas in the upcoming film The Raja Saab.

In a recent statement, actor Malavika Mohanan criticized certain male actors who publicly embrace feminist ideals while privately exhibiting misogynistic behavior. She pointed out this “hypocrisy” in a candid discussion, suggesting that many men in the industry have learned to play the role of a feminist for public approval, only to revert to outdated attitudes when not in the spotlight.

Expressing her frustration about ongoing gender inequality in the film world, Malavika remarked, “I don’t believe that the gender disparity has truly ended in our industry. In fact, I’ve noticed that many male actors have become adept at projecting a socially conscious persona in the last five to six years, effectively masking their true beliefs.”

She elaborated on this observation, stating, “They are skilled at articulating lines that suggest they are progressive and treat women as equals. Yet, when the cameras stop rolling, some revert to being among the most misogynistic individuals I’ve encountered. This is a clear demonstration of hypocrisy.”

Additionally, Malavika tackled a culturally sensitive issue prevalent in the South Indian film industry—an intense focus on actresses’ navels. Reflecting on her own understanding of this phenomenon, she shared, “Having grown up in Mumbai, I was initially baffled by this obsession. However, I later saw numerous instances on social media where the emphasis on an actress’s navel became a significant talking point. It’s a genuine phenomenon that cannot be overlooked.”

Malavika Mohanan began her acting career in 2013 with the Malayalam film Pattam Pole, co-starring alongside Dulquer Salmaan. She gained widespread attention for her role in Beyond the Clouds (2017), which significantly raised her profile. Since then, she has appeared in various acclaimed films across Malayalam, Tamil, and Hindi cinema, including The Great Father (2017), Petta (2019), and Master (2021). Her upcoming projects include The Raja Saab and Sardar 2.
