Charges Filed in Olympia Murder Case

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office has announced that Jeffrey Zizz has been charged with the murder of 82-year-old Marcia Norman. Her remains were found partially buried in concrete beneath a shed in Olympia on April 9, following her reported disappearance on April 4.

Zizz, who has a prior conviction for child molestation, worked as a handyman for Norman and is believed to have been the last person to see her alive. The circumstances surrounding her death have compelled investigators to dig deeper into Zizz’s past and his relationship with the victim.

In a heartfelt statement, Norman’s family expressed their profound loss, stating, “Our family has experienced the loss of our center. Marcia was the one that brought us together. We are thankful for the efforts of law enforcement… she is loved by many.” This sentiment underscores the impact of her untimely death on her loved ones.

Detectives revealed that Zizz had been interviewed multiple times while he was initially categorized as a person of interest. Reports indicated that he and Norman shared a dinner on April 1, which Zizz confirmed during questioning. Thurston Sheriff Lieutenant Mike Brooks noted, “He’s not the average handyman to this family… he’s a good family friend, so it doesn’t necessarily seem like having dinner together would be uncommon.”

Following Norman’s disappearance, Zizz reportedly fled to Montana on April 6, where he was apprehended due to an outstanding warrant related to a separate sexual offense. He was extradited back to Washington on April 13 and is currently being held in the Thurston County Jail for violating probation associated with his previous child molestation charge.

Prosecutors indicate that Zizz has previously served 11 months in jail and is currently under a seven-year probation term stemming from his conviction for child molestation and inappropriate electronic communication with a minor.

As the investigation continues, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office will hold a press conference at 5 p.m. on Monday to share further details about the case.
