The film, directed by Ram Gopal Verma, is re-releasing on January 17. Manoj Bajpayee rose to stardom from this film
In anticipation of the re-release of the acclaimed film Satya, Manoj Bajpayee has reminisced about a unique experience he faced while preparing for his iconic role as Bhiku Matre. This film remains a significant part of Bajpayee’s career, garnering him widespread recognition and acclaim.
As the film gears up for its revival in theaters on January 17, Bajpayee recounted an intriguing incident that highlights his intense commitment to embodying his character. He described a moment when his focused immersion in the role inadvertently led to an unexpected reaction from a stranger.
During a conversation with Mid Day, Bajpayee shared, “I was entering a shop, completely lost in my thoughts, unaware that someone else was exiting simultaneously. Because I was so entrenched in the mindset of a gangster, I just barged in.” His dedication to the character of Bhiku Matre was clear, as he illustrated how he was channeling his character’s essence even outside the film set.
He recalled, “As I walked in, I nearly collided with a young woman leaving the store. She looked at me and asked, ‘Excuse me?’ In that moment, I saw a profound fear in her eyes. We stood there for what felt like 10 seconds, locked in a gaze, and then she suddenly turned and rushed away. That moment was a testament to the psychological space I had entered as an actor,” he reflected.
The film Satya, which also stars JD Chakravarthy, Urmila Matondkar, Saurabh Shukla, and Paresh Rawal, explores the underbelly of Mumbai’s criminal world.
