Manoj Kumar Death: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over the loss of iconic actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar via a post on his X account on Friday morning. He referred to Kumar as a significant figure in Indian cinema and paid homage to his contributions, extending condolences to the bereaved family.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of legendary actor and filmmaker Shri Manoj Kumar Ji. He was an icon of Indian cinema, especially renowned for his patriotic spirit, which resonated through his films. Manoj Ji’s creations ignited feelings of national pride and will continue to motivate future generations. My thoughts are with his family and fans during this difficult time. According to reports from news agency ANI, Manoj Kumar passed away early Friday morning at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. His son, Kunal Goswami, later confirmed the news, stating that the actor had been struggling with health issues for an extended period. He remarked on the peaceful nature of Kumar’s passing, noting that the last rites will be conducted on April 5. “It’s the grace of God that he bid adieu to this world peacefully,” Goswami stated.
Manoj Kumar was renowned for his portrayal of themes that evoked patriotism in his films. Notable works among his filmography include “Shaheed” (1965), “Upkar” (1967), “Purab Aur Paschim” (1970), and “Roti Kapda Aur Makaan” (1974). This alignment with patriotic narratives earned him the affectionate title of “Bharat Kumar.”
In addition to acting, Kumar directed several acclaimed films, including “Hariyali Aur Raasta,” “Woh Kaun Thi,” “Himalaya Ki God Mein,” “Do Badan,” “Patthar Ke Sanam,” “Neel Kamal,” and “Kranti.” His remarkable contributions to Indian cinema were recognized when he was awarded the Padma Shri in 1992 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015.
