Indian cinema mourns the passing of veteran actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar, who died at the age of 87.
Manoj Kumar, a notable figure in the film industry, passed away on Friday, leaving behind a rich legacy in Indian cinema. In response to this loss, fellow actor Akshay Kumar expressed his admiration and grief by sharing a heartfelt tribute on social media.
On X, Akshay wrote, “I grew up learning from him that there’s no emotion like love and pride for our country. And if we actors won’t take the lead in showing this emotion, who will? Such a fine person, and one of the biggest assets of our fraternity. RIP Manoj Sir. Om Shanti ”

Akshay Kumar’s admiration for Manoj Kumar has been evident for years. During an interview years ago, Manoj noted Akshay’s respect, recalling how he advised viewers to understand Indian identity through the lens of Manoj’s film “Purab Aur Paschim,” which he acknowledged as a foundational work for many films that followed.
The news of Kumar’s passing was confirmed by the ANI news agency, which reported that he died at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. Details regarding the circumstances surrounding his death are still emerging.
Manoj Kumar’s son, Kunal Goswami, also verified the news and shared that the final rites will occur the following day. He mentioned that his father had been facing health challenges for some time, but expressed gratitude that he departed peacefully. “His cremation will take place tomorrow,” he stated.
Renowned for his patriotic films, Manoj Kumar acted in and directed several influential works, including “Shaheed” (1965), “Upkar” (1967), “Purab Aur Paschim” (1970), and “Roti Kapda Aur Makaan” (1974). His contributions to cinema earned him the endearing title “Bharat Kumar,” highlighting his role in portraying national pride through film.
