Manthey Racing Expands DTM Lineup with New Porsche 911 GT3 R
Manthey Racing is set to broaden its participation in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) for the upcoming season by introducing a third Porsche 911 GT3 R. This move comes as the team aims to enhance its competitive edge in the German GT3 racing series.
Incorporating fresh talent into its ranks, the team has secured the services of Morris Schuring, a notable winner in the Le Mans 24 Hours class. Schuring, who has previous experience with Manthey in the World Endurance Championship’s LMGT3 category where he achieved a second-place finish in the standings, will be making his debut in the DTM. At just 20 years old, he will race under the banner of the Manthey Junior Team.
The partnership solidifies an existing strong lineup that includes Thomas Preining, the reigning DTM champion, and Ayhancan Guven, a Bathurst 12 Hour race victor. Both competitors will return as entrants under the Manthey EMA team banner.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Schuring remarked, “The DTM has consistently been a series I aspired to compete in. This opportunity is a dream come true, especially given that I get to work with Manthey, one of the premier teams in motorsport, having secured the 2023 DTM title.” He added, “Having previously won at Le Mans with this team, I am thrilled to transition into a sprint format with them. I have a deep appreciation for sprint racing, and this series allows me to showcase my abilities as a driver. With my past experience in the Porsche Carrera Cup, I am familiar with seven of the DTM circuits, with only the Norisring being new to me.”
Last season, Manthey was the sole representative of Porsche in the DTM. Guven transitioned from Team Bernhard to join Preining, stepping in for the departing Dennis Olsen, who moved to Ford. While Guven faced challenges during the year, he secured a podium finish in the season finale at Hockenheim. Preining also had a commendable year, finishing fifth in the overall standings with a notable victory at the Lausitzring.
Manthey EMA concluded the previous season in sixth place in the team standings, with Porsche finishing fifth in the manufacturers’ table. Reflecting on the last season’s performance, Nicolas Raeder, Managing Director of Manthey Racing GmbH, stated, “After our 2024 results fell short of expectations despite a commendable team effort, we are excited to come back stronger in 2025. In our third season, we aim to compete aggressively.” He expressed his satisfaction at retaining Ayhancan and Thomas for this season and hopes for improved results from their collaborative efforts.
Raeder also praised Schuring’s achievements, stating, “Morris had an impressive season in the WEC last year. He is a promising young driver whose performances have left a lasting impression on us; hence, the next logical step is his entry into the DTM.”
This year, Porsche will also expand its DTM presence through Allied Racing, which has confirmed its participation in the series. The German team, experienced in competitions such as the GT Masters and GT World Challenge Europe, will field two Porsche GT3 vehicles, driven by former Audi racer Ricardo Feller and 21-year-old Bastian Buus.
Looking Ahead
This expansion of talent and resources reflects the competitive spirit of the DTM and the ongoing commitment of Porsche and Manthey Racing to success in the top tier of German motorsport.
