Marathi actor Sanket Korlekar’s iPhone 16 Pro Max was snatched by bikers in Thane, Maharashtra. He filed an FIR and urged people to stay alert, sharing his experience on social media.
Sanket Korlekar recently fell victim to a street theft incident in Thane, Maharashtra, where bikers forcefully took his brand-new iPhone 16 Pro Max, valued at Rs 1.70 lakh. The incident unfolded while he was traveling in a rickshaw en route to a meeting, with the thieves escaping before he could react. This phone, which he acquired just the previous month, became a target in a moment of vulnerability.
Taking to social media, Korlekar recounted the harrowing experience, noting that the force used by the bikers resulted in visible scratches on his wrist. He detailed how a strap on his phone made it apparent that he was holding it, likely attracting the attention of the criminals.
Following the theft, Korlekar promptly reported the incident to the local authorities at Rabodi Police Station. He expressed his trust in the police, hopeful that they can assist in recovering his stolen device.
Emotionally impacted by the experience, Korlekar remarked, “I was in a rickshaw and even though I was sitting in the middle, they stole my phone. Today, it’s me. Tomorrow, it might be a woman. Forget the mobile, I can see people who are desperate for a mobile worth Rs. 10,000. They are in great danger.” His words reflect a growing unease about safety in the area, especially given Thane’s previous reputation for security.
Korlekar called for enhanced security measures in light of the increasing incidents of thefts. During his visit to file the complaint, he witnessed another individual reporting a similar incident of phone theft near Viviana Mall in Thane. This encounter heightened his concerns over the persistent threat posed by mobile snatchers.
He further articulated his worries, saying, “Today, nothing happened because my hand was strong. But tomorrow morning, if it was a woman and she had fallen out of the rickshaw, it would have been an even bigger problem. There were many cars coming behind her. So, I am really worried. This is something to think about. You should think about it. The government should think about it.”
In addition to the immediate concerns of his stolen phone, Korlekar underscored the importance of mobile devices in his professional life and social media engagement. He voiced alarm over the escalating occurrences of chain snatching and motorcycle theft, reflecting a broader issue affecting the community. Nevertheless, he remains optimistic, stating, “I trust our police, and I believe something good will happen soon. Until then, stay alert—nothing is truly safe. Be careful.”
