Anthony Rubio Scores First Touchdown in Gasparilla Bowl

Senator Marco Rubio of Florida experienced a moment of immense pride as his son, Anthony Rubio, made his collegiate football debut by scoring his first touchdown during the Gasparilla Bowl against Tulane. The game, which took place on Friday night, showcased the Florida Gators dominating their opponent with a final score of 33-8.

In the closing moments of the game, Anthony, a walk-on running back for the Gators, secured his touchdown with a nine-yard run, contributing to Florida’s fourth consecutive win this season. Florida’s head coach, Billy Napier, expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating, “Great to finish the right way.”

The match had already been decided when Anthony crossed the goal line, but his teammates celebrated the milestone, recognizing it as a significant achievement in his first college game.

Reflecting on the celebration, Anthony described it as “insane,” expressing gratitude for the moment and stating, “First, I want to thank God for that; it wouldn’t have happened without Him,” as he spoke with Florida beat writer Jesse Simmons.

In a show of support and pride, Senator Rubio took to social media to highlight his son’s accomplishment. He posted on X, celebrating Anthony’s touchdown while emphasizing his appreciation for the joy shared among the teammates and Anthony’s expression of gratitude to God.

Anthony Rubio began his journey with the Gators as a walk-on in 2023, having redshirted his initial year. The game against Tulane marked his first significant playing time, culminating in a performance that included 32 rushing yards alongside his touchdown.
