Star-Studded Line-Up at Newport Beach Film Festival
The Newport Beach Film Festival is set to showcase a remarkable array of talent during its run from October 17 to 24, with notable entries like Margaret Qualley and Bobby Cannavale receiving honors. Among the highlights is a special screening of “The Last Showgirl” on October 20, featuring a post-screening Q&A with director Gia Coppola, writer Kate Gersten, and actress Kiernan Shipka. Shipka will also be awarded the Artist of Distinction Award, recognizing her performance alongside Pamela Anderson and Jamie Lee Curtis in the film.
Alongside Shipka, screenwriters Meg LeFauve and Dave Holstein of “Inside Out 2” will receive the Artist of Distinction Award – Screenwriting after a special screening and discussion of the animated film on October 19. Qualley, known for her role in “The Substance,” is set to be honored with the Spotlight Award, while Cannavale, currently seen in “Ezra,” will collect the Artist of Distinction Award at the festival’s awards brunch on October 20.
Previously announced honorees for this year’s festival include esteemed figures such as Nicolas Cage, Joan Chen, Colman Domingo, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Sheryl Lee Ralph, George MacKay, Diane Warren, and June Squibb. The brunch will also feature a discussion with Variety’s 10 Actors to Watch and the presentation of the Legends and Groundbreakers Award to actor and comedian Amy Poehler.
The festival aims to honor those behind the scenes as well, with the recently unveiled Master of the Frame panel slated for October 19, featuring prominent cinematographers such as Alice Brooks, recognized for her work on “Wicked,” and Lawrence Sher, known for “Joker: Folie à Deux.”
