Mark Burnett Appointed as Special Envoy to the UK by President-elect Donald Trump
In a surprising move, President-elect Donald Trump has selected renowned television producer and creator of “The Apprentice,” Mark Burnett, to serve as the Special Envoy to the United Kingdom.
Trump announced this decision on Truth Social, expressing his enthusiasm: “It is my great honor to appoint Mark Burnett as the Special Envoy to the United Kingdom. With a distinguished career in television production and business, Mark brings a unique blend of diplomatic acumen and international recognition to this important role.”
Burnett, well-regarded in the entertainment industry, is the mastermind behind several iconic television programs, such as “Survivor,” “Shark Tank,” “The Voice,” and, of course, “The Apprentice.” His contributions to television have earned him 13 Emmy Awards, and he previously held the position of Chairman of MGM. In his new role, Burnett is expected to focus on strengthening diplomatic ties between the United States and the UK, emphasizing trade, investment opportunities, and cultural exchanges.
Unlike ambassadors, special envoys do not need Senate confirmation, giving Trump the ability to make this appointment without the usual political hurdles. Earlier this month, Trump nominated Warren Stephens, a billionaire investor and significant financial backer, as the US ambassador to the UK.
Burnett’s tenure at MGM ended in 2022 following its acquisition by Amazon, marking a significant shift in the entertainment landscape. His influence on Trump’s rise to fame cannot be understated, as Burnett played a crucial role in catapulting Trump into the public eye through his work on “The Apprentice,” which aired from 2004 until 2017.
