Martha Stewart Embraces the Spirit of Halloween
Martha Stewart is enthusiastically welcoming the Halloween season as October begins. The renowned lifestyle expert, now 83 years old, recently provided a special behind-the-scenes glimpse of her costume for this year while fondly reminiscing about her past Halloween attire.
In a video shared on YouTube, Stewart reflected on her previous costumes, highlighting one memorable event that required her to put in significant effort. “Every Halloween is fun,” she remarked while seated in a stylist’s chair.
Stewart recounted a particular Halloween when she faced the challenge of transporting a surfboard while dressed in a wetsuit. “I remember dragging a surfboard in a wetsuit up Park Avenue, and I looked like I had been surfing by the time I got to the Waldorf hotel for Bette Midler’s big Hulaween because no taxi would take me with a surfboard,” she explained.
An archive photo from October 30, 1998, illustrated her dedication; it captured her in a black long-sleeved Body Glove wetsuit adorned with teal accents, holding a boogie board while her hair appeared damp.
Reflecting on that occasion, Stewart shared, “So, I had to drag [it] from 26th Street to 50th Street. But it was fun. That was a fun party.” This year, she has chosen to portray The Queen of Halloween, taking inspiration primarily from coronation images of Queen Elizabeth I.
Stewart stated, “Halloween is a time to, sort of, disguise, to show off, to have fun and to transform.” She expressed her passion for transformation, saying, “I love transformation, and I think it’s so much fun to become somebody else, something else.”
During her makeup session for a magazine cover, Stewart shared skincare tips and reflected on some of her more notable costumes, including a whimsical outfit where she dressed as a moth, humorously calling herself “Moth-a Stewart.”
“Halloween is almost upon us again, and I’m thrilled to share this very special volume with you. It is our ode to the fun and festive event, as well as to the joys of the early fall season. Now is a time that I look forward to every year, especially as the heat of summer gives way to those cooler and brilliant autumn days,” she stated in her announcement.
Stewart elaborated on her seasonal activities, saying, “Come September, I’m ready to go apple picking in the orchard and start selecting interesting pumpkins from the patch to display on the farm and around my home. This year, my editors crowned me Queen of Halloween! As they know well, I truly love to dream up a great costume and get in the spirit. I have dressed as so many different characters over the years — yet never a royal. The final result was fun and easy to make, and feels regal and elegant to wear. I think I’m ready for Halloween. Now my only question is, what will you be?”
Martha Stewart Halloween is currently available on newsstands and can also be found on Amazon.
