The video, released on April 21, showcased detailed previews of Marvel Rivals, outlining the mechanics of its currency systems.

However, it’s worth noting that the current iteration of in-game currencies has evolved. They now include golden Lattice, purple Chrono Tokens, and blue Units, which replaces the original single red and golden currencies.

The visual parallels between Overwatch Coins and Marvel Rivals’ currencies are significant, with both games maintaining a similar color scheme and aesthetic. Overwatch offers Competitive Points (red) and Overwatch Coins (golden) for players.

From a gameplay perspective, the monetization structure of Marvel Rivals also draws inspiration from Overwatch’s model, with currency sales translating to real-world prices—$1 for 100 coins—and skin costs ranging between $16 and $33 based on rarity and bundles. Players can earn free currency through challenges and battle passes.

Additionally, glimpses of cheeky cameos like Red Hulk and preliminary concepts for Winter Soldier were shared, hinting at content ready for Season 0’s Battle Pass, including skins for Galactic Cap and Hawkeye.

While Marvel Rivals may have initially borrowed stylistic cues reminiscent of Overwatch, it is proudly paving a unique path infused with the vibrancy of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With Ultron slated for arrival in Season 2.5, the game’s future promises excitement—with an undeniable hint of familiarity.
