Scotland Women achieved their second straight win in the WXV2 competition, defeating Japan 19-13 in a match held in Cape Town.
With this latest victory, Scotland continues to build momentum in their WXV2 campaign following a strong 19-0 win against Italy in their initial match last weekend.
The match against Japan proved to be a challenging encounter, as the Japanese team consistently posed threats of a comeback. Scotland struck early when Francesca McGhie scored a try in the second minute, successfully converted by Helen Nelson.
Japan’s Seina Saito equalized with a try at the 28-minute mark, but Scotland managed to maintain a 12-5 lead at halftime, thanks to Alex Stewart’s try just before the break.
In the second half, Ayasa Otsuka managed to score a penalty for Japan in the 57th minute, but Scotland responded effectively. Rhona Lloyd extended the lead with a try six minutes later, which was converted by Meryl Smith, giving Scotland a comfortable advantage.
Despite a late try by Japan’s captain Iroha Nagata, which narrowed the score to 19-13 with less than 15 minutes remaining, Scotland successfully defended their lead to secure the win.
