The radio personality and former MTV VJ, Matt Pinfield, is making strides in his recovery following a serious health crisis involving a stroke and subsequent coma. “I’m alive,” Pinfield shared with The Hollywood Reporter. He expressed optimism about resuming work later this month, stating he was initially unresponsive for two months and that his friends feared they were visiting him for the last time. Medical professionals had low expectations for his ability to speak or walk again, making his recovery particularly remarkable.

Pinfield credited his daughter, Jessica, with playing a pivotal role in his recovery process, as she managed his medical and financial affairs while he was in intensive care. “She protected me,” he expressed, highlighting her importance during his time of need.

The 63-year-old former host of 120 Minutes suffered a stroke on January 6. In legal filings, both Jessica and her sister, Maya, voiced concerns regarding Pinfield’s girlfriend, alleging her desire for control over his assets and home. This situation prompted Jessica to pursue temporary conservatorship, allowing her to act in her father’s best interests. Fortunately, Pinfield was moved out of the ICU last month.

While battling pneumonia and reliant on a ventilator, Pinfield fought for his life. However, as his condition improved, his passion for music reignited quickly. “My friends said I went on about ‘A Whiter Shade of Pale’ and how they couldn’t keep up with what I was saying,” he recounted, reflecting on how his mind was still sharp despite his physical struggles.

During this challenging period, Pinfield received considerable support from various musicians, including Shirley Manson and Butch Walker, as well as individuals from the broadcasting community, such as podcast host Allison Hagendorf. “I want to say how grateful I am for all the people that were wishing me well,” he conveyed to The Hollywood Reporter. “The love of the community helped me get through this.”

Looking ahead, Pinfield expressed his desire to return to his radio shows as soon as possible, eager to reconnect with his audience and resume his work in the music industry.
