Matthew Gray Gubler’s anticipated return to CBS will now take a backseat for another year. The actor and executive producer’s upcoming drama series, “Einstein,” has been rescheduled for the 2026-27 television season after receiving a series order from the network.
CBS representatives indicated that the postponement stems from “limited shelf space” in the upcoming 2025-26 TV lineup. They believe that the series will benefit from a more extended pre-production period. An announcement regarding the new CBS primetime schedule is set for May 7.
This exciting drama will center around Lewis Einstein, portrayed by Gubler, who is the great-grandson of the legendary physicist Albert Einstein. Despite being Princeton’s most renowned professor, Lewis finds himself entangled in a series of homicides that challenge his formidable intellect. Descriptions of the character reveal Lewis as “irreverent and misguided,” burdened by the weight of his ancestor’s significant legacy.
Joining Gubler in the cast is Rosa Salazar, known for her roles in “Bird Box” and “Undone,” who will play Veronica “Ronni” Paris, an inspector for the New Jersey State Police. Her character grapples with complicated feelings regarding her collaboration with Einstein.
Characterized as a drama infused with comedic elements, “Einstein” will depict Gubler’s character as a “brilliant but directionless” individual. The series is crafted by writer and executive producer Andy Breckman, alongside executive producer and director Randy Zisk. Gubler will also fulfill a producing role, with Tariq Jalil, Rose Hughes, Rodrigo Herrera Ibarguengoytia, and Laura Beetz joining from Seven One Studios International. The project is being developed under CBS Studios.
