Maya Hawke and Christian Lee Hutson Make Their Red Carpet Debut
Maya Hawke recently attended the opening night of John Proctor Is the Villain, stepping out with her boyfriend Christian Lee Hutson, marking their first appearance together on the red carpet.
The 26-year-old actress showed her support for her Stranger Things co-star Sadie Sink at the Booth Theater in New York City. Hawke chose a stylish outfit featuring a pleated skirt, a collared sweater, a leather trench coat, and Prada loafers, while Hutson, 34, opted for a relaxed look in denim and a brown turtleneck, completing his outfit with white Converse sneakers.
The couple’s relationship began four years ago when they met in the music industry. Hutson has gained recognition for his indie folk music, which includes collaborations with artists like Phoebe Bridgers, whom he supported during her 2021 Reunion tour.
In addition to their personal relationship, Hawke and Hutson have worked together musically on her upcoming album Chaos Angel, which features the single “Missing Out.” In an interview in July 2024 on the Zach Sang Show, Hawke expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating, “It is awesome. I mean, I cannot recommend highly enough dating your friends. It’s the best. They know you, and as a human being who has dated other people, they really know you as a person who has feelings … not just a piece of paper for them to project their image of perfect girlfriend onto.”
Hawke and Sink first collaborated on Stranger Things in 2017, and on the opening night, several other cast members from the show, including Natalia Dyer, Finn Wolfhard, and Gaten Matarazzo, showed their support for Sink.
In her role in John Proctor Is the Villain, Sink plays Shelby Holcomb, a high school student alongside a group of peers studying Arthur Miller’s iconic play The Crucible. This work, written by Kimberly Belflower and directed by Tony Award winner Danya Taymor, explores the students’ evolving perspectives on the classic narrative as they grapple with themes of morality and justice.
The narrative prompts the characters to reconsider the traditional view of John Proctor as the hero, delving into complex questions that resonate with contemporary audiences. This performance marks Sink’s third appearance on Broadway, enhancing her growing repertoire as a theater actress.
Sink shared her enthusiasm for the show, expressing, “Kimberly’s writing is so brilliant and truly captures teenagers in such an authentic light and deals with some uncomfortable topics, but in such a digestible, honest way. So I’m incredibly more proud of our team and the message that this show has.”
As anticipation builds, fans await the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, which has recently wrapped production and is set to premiere on Netflix later this year, with an exact release date yet to be announced, according to Tudum.
