Thomas Markle Jr. Critiques Meghan Markle’s Netflix Show
Meghan Markle’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., has openly criticized her recently launched Netflix series, “With Love, Meghan,” dismissing her personal anecdotes as fabrications. The estranged siblings have not communicated in over ten years, and Thomas Jr. expressed skepticism regarding Meghan’s portrayal of her upbringing, asserting that “nobody’s buying” her claims of a modest lifestyle.
In an interview with TalkTV, he reacted to a segment of Meghan’s show where she described her childhood as that of a “latchkey kid,” emphasizing her reliance on convenience foods and television for entertainment. “That’s just another one of the malarkey stories she sold to the royal family for sympathy,” he remarked, adding, “We weren’t poor. She didn’t have to rub two nickels together at Sizzler’s salad bar.”
Thomas further criticized Meghan’s approach to her family, particularly her relationship with their father, declaring, “The entire world knows how she treated her family, especially her father, who gave her everything. That’s why nobody’s buying it.”
The Duchess of Sussex described her formative years, acknowledging the normalcy of microwave meals in her household. However, Thomas referred to her narratives as “fake,” suggesting a disconnect between her experiences and the reality he perceives.
In her show, Meghan referred to herself as “Meghan Sussex,” highlighting the importance of her family name. She explained her emotional connection to it, saying, “You have kids, and you go, ‘No, I share my name with my children.’ I didn’t know how meaningful that would be to me, but it just means so much to go, ‘This is our family name, our little family name.’”
The series features various celebrity guests, including Mindy Kaling, with whom Meghan collaborates to create a kids’ garden tea party in one of the episodes. While they shared experiences in the kitchen, Meghan remarked on her past affinity for fast food. Kaling’s disbelief at Meghan’s admission about eating at chain restaurants underscored the contrast between public perceptions and personal realities.
Despite her focus on lifestyle topics such as cooking and gardening, Thomas Jr. countered her claims, asserting that Meghan “didn’t cook anything for anybody ever growing up.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who stepped back from their royal duties in 2020, are currently raising their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in Montecito, California, yet they retain their royal titles.
As the conversation surrounding Meghan’s narratives continues to unfold, both critical and supportive perspectives are emerging, reflecting the complexities of her public persona versus her personal history.
