Melissa Rivers and Steve Mitchel Celebrate Their Wedding in Jackson Hole

Melissa Rivers has officially tied the knot with Steve Mitchel. The couple exchanged vows on March 15 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, surrounded by about 150 friends and family members, as reported by People magazine.

Rivers faced the possibility of canceling the wedding following her loss in the Palisades fire earlier this year. However, the support of her friends encouraged her to proceed with the celebration. “I was ready to give up, feeling overwhelmed,” she shared. “But my friends insisted that we continue because many of them had also lost their homes, and this event became a much-needed moment of joy for all of us.”

On her special day, Rivers donned a stunning gunmetal gown designed by Stella McCartney, while the couple recited their personalized vows. The ceremony was officiated by Sabrina Lott Miller, a long-time assistant to the Rivers family, with touchingly heartfelt remarks from Melissa’s son, Cooper Endicott, who is 24 years old.

In a touching tribute to her late mother Joan Rivers, who passed away in 2014, guests were presented with golden bee pins. The bee symbolizes resilience and the belief that despite seemingly impossible odds, one can prevail, a message Joan embodied in her life.

A Memorable Reception

For their first dance as a married couple, Melissa and Steve chose the Talking Heads’ classic “Burning Down the House,” a playful reference to recent challenges, followed by Aretha Franklin’s “I Say a Little Prayer.” The reception was a festive affair, featuring a menu that included Korean fried chicken sliders, baked king salmon with tomato fondue, charred Brussels sprouts, and a selection of beef dishes.

Melissa expressed her delight at how the event unfolded, stating, “Our aim was straightforward: to throw a party and let the wedding moment emerge along the way. And we achieved it! People mingled, laughed, and by the end, strangers felt like old friends.”

Along with the wedding festivities, guests had the opportunity to enjoy a ski weekend at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, including a welcome party and a farewell brunch.

Reflecting on the event’s atmosphere, Rivers said, “It surprised me how well my friends behaved together. The genuine happiness in that room was incredibly touching. I’m not one to fall back on clichés like ‘feeling the warmth and love,’ but I truly felt it this time, and it was overwhelming.”

Strength Through Adversity

In interviews, the couple shared how the recent fires brought them closer together. “It’s comforting to see how well we handle crises as a team,” Melissa remarked, while Steve recalled their decision to exchange rings prior to the wedding. “We were staying at a friend’s guest room when Melissa suggested we exchange our rings and share our vows right then and there. I initially thought it was a bit of a joke, but it turned out to be a deeply connecting moment for us.”

Melissa humorously added, “We took some terrible selfies while doing it, but wearing those rings leading up to the big day felt incredibly special.”

The couple first met at a Didi Hirsch mental health foundation event, although Melissa joked that their first date almost didn’t happen due to Steve’s choice of footwear. However, his genuine concern for her safety while crossing the street ultimately led her to want a second date. “Now, every time something challenging arises, I tease him about how grateful we are for that second chance,” she said.

She fondly described Steve as a “solid guy,” expressing admiration for his dependability in their relationship. “It’s such a relief to be with someone where I never have to question or worry,” she added with a playful note. “Plus, he smartly lets me win most of our arguments, although it’s usually because I’m right!”

Rivers announced their engagement in November 2023, expressing her astonishment and happiness over their union. “This is a significant step for both of us, and I’m still in disbelief,” she said. She also mentioned how pleased her late mother would have been with her choice of engagement ring and in Steve himself, emphasizing that he would have received her approval.

Steve proposed while they were enjoying a getaway at the One & Only Mandarina Resort in Mexico. Previously, Rivers was married to John Endicott from 1998 until their divorce in 2003.
