Melville House to Release Trade Paperback of DOJ Report on Tulsa Race Massacre
Melville House is set to publish a trade paperback edition of the Department of Justice’s recently released report on the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921. This January 17 report revealed that the violent event resulted from a “systematic and coordinated” assault by white perpetrators, contradicting earlier narratives that blamed the violence on a riot instigated by Black residents. The massacre led to the deaths of hundreds of Black Oklahomans and devastated Tulsa’s prosperous Black community, known as “Black Wall Street.”
Publisher Dennis Johnson emphasized the importance of having printed editions of such pivotal documents. He stated, “It’s essential to ensure that these historic texts are available in print—not merely in digital format—to aid in their preservation and widespread distribution to schools, libraries, and bookstores.” Melville House anticipates making this book available by mid-February.
Historically, Melville House has successfully published editions of significant government reports. Notably, in 2019, the publisher released The Mueller Report, marking its entry into the mass market paperback genre. Earlier this month, they also announced plans to publish a trade paperback edition of The Jack Smith Report, scheduled for February 11.
