Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses are now receiving an update that enhances user experience by integrating Spotify, Apple Music, and Shazam functionalities across additional regions. The update emphasizes the glasses’ AI capabilities, providing users with more engaging and lifelike audio experiences. Notably, earlier this year, Meta confirmed that sales of these glasses surpassed 2 million units, with ambitious plans to raise production to 10 million by 2026.
Meta is rolling out an exciting update for Ray-Ban smart glasses, ushering in a range of new features that promise to enrich user interaction.
The new update, identified as version 14.1, was brought to light by Android Central’s Nicholas Sutrich on April 17. This update focuses heavily on enhancing the applications and AI functionalities of the smart glasses. Among the significant additions, Meta has introduced the ability for users to play and shuffle music through Spotify, allowing commands like “shuffle my (X) playlist” and “repeat this song.”
These features can be activated using the phrase “Hey Meta” once the update is applied. English-speaking users in the U.K., Canada, Australia, France, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Austria, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Germany, and Norway will have access to Spotify on their Ray-Ban glasses. Additionally, Apple Music and Shazam will be available in conjunction with Spotify across these regions.
The latest version of the glasses’ AI now allows users to request information about weather conditions, air quality, and UV index using voice commands. Here’s a brief overview of some important updates included in the v14.1 patch:
Enhanced Voices: The AI-driven voices have been refined to sound more natural. Users can select their preferred voice through Meta AI Settings > Voice.Meta AI Expansion in the U.K.: Users can now explore historical information about local landmarks or receive recipe suggestions based on household ingredients, providing a more immersive experience during their daily activities.

In December, just before the holiday season, Meta introduced a groundbreaking AI update for the Ray-Ban smart glasses, targeted toward users involved in the Early Access program. This update featured functionalities like Live Record and Live Translate. With Live Record, users can capture their surroundings and gain AI-generated insights without needing to verbally activate the feature. Furthermore, with Live Translate, users can instantly hear or read translations of foreign languages directly through the glasses or their connected devices.
Since their release in 2023, Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses have enjoyed considerable success, with sales reaching 2 million units. In light of this achievement, EssilorLuxottica has announced plans to scale up production significantly to meet growing demand, aiming for 10 million units by 2026. Both Meta and EssilorLuxottica are heavily investing in the future of smart glasses, with rumors suggesting the next iteration may include a built-in display. This feature would enhance functionality by reducing the need for users to pull out their phones or rely on the speakers alone for information.
