Ray-Ban Meta Glasses surpassed 2 million units sold since their release in October 2023. EssilorLuxottica announced plans to escalate production to 10 million units annually by 2026. Speculation is growing that Meta is developing a version with an integrated display, with forthcoming iterations likely to heavily incorporate AI technology.

EssilorLuxottica has disclosed impressive sales figures for the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, indicating that over 2 million pairs have been sold since their launch in October 2023.

This development follows Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s recent announcement of reaching one million sales in early 2024, highlighting the growing popularity of these innovative eyewear products.

In response to this demand, EssilorLuxottica plans to significantly boost production. According to a report by UploadVR, the goal is to ramp up output to an impressive 10 million units per year by the close of 2026.

To sustain momentum, Meta is investing heavily in marketing, including high-profile Super Bowl advertisements featuring major celebrities, indicating a serious commitment to boosting sales throughout the year.

During the FY2024 earnings call, CEO and Chairman Francesco Milleri expressed his confidence that smart glasses will emerge as an essential digital platform for addressing everyday challenges. This illustrates the company’s significant investment in the future of smart eyewear as a key technological trend.

Milleri emphasized that EssilorLuxottica is committed to a long-term partnership with Meta, viewing the Ray-Ban Meta platform as an inclusive “shared platform” open for collaborations with other brands, thereby broadening its market reach.

Currently, the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses operate without a display, relying on touch and voice commands. However, reports suggest that upcoming versions may include a screen, which could add new functionalities such as visual aids and expanded capabilities, enhancing the user experience.

Milleri hinted at the integration of AI in Meta’s smart glasses, hinting at potential subscription models, and voiced enthusiasm for the global rollout of Meta’s multimodal AI technologies.
