It’s been a noteworthy day in the realm of T-Mobile as significant adjustments emerge, not only within their postpaid offerings but also affecting their prepaid segment, Metro by T-Mobile. This anticipated shakeup finally came to fruition amid speculation of a major announcement. Metro by T-Mobile has unveiled a substantial redesign of its prepaid packages, introducing four new plans alongside added benefits and a unique five-year price guarantee on talk, text, and data.
Effective April 24, consumers will have a selection of plans: Metro Starter, Metro Starter Plus, Metro Flex Unlimited, and Metro Flex Unlimited Plus. These options are crafted to enhance flexibility while also decreasing monthly expenses, particularly benefiting families. Notably, every plan includes a complimentary 5G phone when customers transfer their existing numbers with the Metro Starter Plus $40 deal.
Here’s a breakdown of the newly structured Metro plans:
Metro Starter
$25 per line for families of four utilizing AutoPay (totaling $105 for the first month)
Unlimited talk and text
10GB of high-speed data
Incorporates Scam Shield and T-Mobile Tuesdays
Metro Starter Plus
Flat rate of $40 per month, AutoPay not necessary
Unlimited talk, text, and 5G data
Includes a complimentary 5G phone with number transfer
Features MLB.TV and MLS Season Pass on Apple TV for the season
Metro Flex Unlimited
$30 per line for families of four on AutoPay (totaling $125 for the first month)
Unlimited talk, text, and 5G data
8GB of hotspot data
100GB of Google One cloud storage
Annual phone upgrades available after 12 months of service
Metro Flex Unlimited Plus
Priced $10 lower than the former Metro Flex Plus plan
Includes an Amazon Prime membership
Supports HD video streaming
25GB of hotspot data
Smartwatch or tablet line add-on for $5/month
Unlimited texting from the U.S. to over 210 countries
All these plans incorporate a five-year price lock on talk, text, and data, benefiting both new and existing customers on qualifying plans. This level of price stability is notably uncommon in the prepaid wireless sector, where fluctuations can occur unexpectedly.
Additionally, Metro is rolling out a limited-time promotion from April 24 to May 14, allowing users to add a 2GB line to any plan for just $15 in the first month, followed by a mere $5 monthly fee thereafter. The Ad It Up program is also being introduced, enabling customers to lower their upcoming month’s charges by engaging with ads or completing tasks via the Play2Pay platform, with Metro reporting average savings of over $15 per month for participants.
This overhaul is a significant transition for Metro, reflecting one of the most substantial updates to its pricing approach in recent years. With an emphasis on savings for multi-line users, included perks, and assured rates, the new offerings are designed to provide increased predictability during a period when overall costs continue to rise.
