Back to the Future Cast Reunites at Rhode Island Comic Con
The iconic cast of Back to the Future had a nostalgic reunion at the Rhode Island Comic Con this past Sunday, November 3.
Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, and Thomas F. Wilson, who brought the beloved characters of the 1985 film to life, participated in a Q&A session discussing the original film and its sequels.
As the actors made their way to the stage, Michael J. Fox, linked arm in arm with Thompson, received a warm and enthusiastic welcome from the crowd, highlighting the enduring affection fans hold for the film.
Reflecting on the four decades since the film’s premiere, Fox, who portrayed Marty McFly, humorously recalled, “I didn’t know what the hell I was getting into,” prompting laughter from the audience. He later described the original movie as “one of the few perfect movies,” underscoring its cultural impact.
Thompson, also 63, expressed her gratitude for the role of Lorraine, Marty’s mother, stating she feels fortunate to be recognized for being part of such a beloved film. She emphasized that the film’s theme of how small actions can lead to significant consequences contributes to its lasting resonance with viewers.
“I thought the script was amazing,” she remarked, noting her immediate impression upon reading it. “When I read the script, I was blown away. So from that moment, I thought there was something special.” This sentiment echoes the film’s unique appeal that has captivated audiences for generations.
Wilson, who played the notorious Biff Tannen, shared insights into the influence of his character on real-life bullies. He mentioned receiving messages from individuals who recognized their flawed behavior and sought to apologize, indicating how the film’s themes resonate beyond the screen.
The Back to the Future stars have gathered for various events in recent years. Notably, many participated in a gala for Back to the Future: The Musical, which continues to run on Broadway at New York’s Winter Garden Theatre, reflecting the franchise’s continued relevance in popular culture.
Last year, Fox revealed in an interview with Variety that his friendship with Lloyd deepened during the filming of Back to the Future Part III in 1990. He described his co-star as “very enigmatic” and acknowledged the passion Lloyd has for acting, a realization that shifted their relationship.
The Rhode Island Comic-Con event ran from November 1-3 in Providence, providing a platform for fans to engage with their favorite stars and celebrate the legacy of a beloved film franchise.
