Michael Moore has recently expressed optimism regarding the upcoming presidential debates between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.
In a report by The Guardian, the acclaimed filmmaker and activist shared his belief that Trump could face significant challenges when he debates the Democratic vice president.
Moore articulated his thoughts, suggesting that Trump’s temperament may lead to unpredictable reactions during the live event. “I think I’m going to see what I was hoping for for eight years,” he noted, emphasizing that pressure could lead Trump to behave in an erratic manner. “On live TV? Trump could explode, start talking like a 12-year-old… or get up and leave.”
Furthermore, Moore pointed out that the Democrats’ tactic of portraying Trump as “weird” could be an effective strategy. He advised that they should embrace this characterization and approach the debate with a blend of irony and satire to expose the absurdities he believes Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, might bring to the discussion.
Despite this focus on strategy, Moore also emphasized the necessity for Harris to engage with pressing issues that resonate with voters, including affordable housing and the climate crisis. He underscored the significant role of the ongoing conflict in Gaza, noting its importance to a younger electorate that is generally opposed to warfare.
“The boomers may not be the No 1 voters in this election,” he mentioned, asserting that younger voters would be instrumental, particularly due to their distaste for conflict. Moore added that many younger Americans are critical of President Joe Biden and his support of the war.
As the debate date approaches in September, expectations are building for the exchange of ideas—and potentially sharp exchanges—between Harris and Trump. Moore believes that Harris may perform well unless she becomes improperly associated with Biden’s less favorable policies.
“Biden, sadly, is going to be remembered for funding the war in Gaza and providing the armaments to [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, not arms for protecting Israel, but extra money to kill Palestinian civilians,” he stated regarding the implications of Biden’s policies.
As anticipation grows, the debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump is scheduled for September, set to be aired on ABC News.
