Microsoft Expands AI Capabilities in Windows 11 Update
Microsoft is broadening its AI functionalities with new offerings for Copilot Plus PCs powered by Intel and AMD processors. Among the standout enhancements is the introduction of Live Captions, a feature that facilitates real-time translation of audio into English subtitles from numerous languages.
The initial testing of Live Captions commenced last December, and following this, the feature has now been integrated with the latest update to Windows 11. This update also introduces Cocreator, an innovative tool within Paint that generates images based on user-defined text descriptions alongside ongoing drawings. Furthermore, users will gain expanded access to AI-driven capabilities within the Photos app, which includes an advanced image editing and generating tool.
Prior to this update, these AI functionalities were exclusive to Copilot Plus PCs that utilized Qualcomm chips. Microsoft has also been trialing Recall—an AI feature that enables users to capture screenshots of their activities and search through them—with Intel and AMD devices since last year, although a timeline for a broader release has yet to be announced.
In addition to these updates, Microsoft is enhancing Voice Access on Qualcomm-powered Copilot Plus devices, an accessibility tool that allows for voice-controlled navigation of PCs. According to Microsoft, users of Voice Access on these devices will now have the option to communicate using more detailed and adaptable language constructs. Moreover, the capability to translate 27 different languages into Simplified Chinese will be introduced, with plans to extend these functionalities to Intel and AMD devices in the near future.
