Microsoft Launches Copilot AI Assistant for macOS
Microsoft has introduced its Copilot AI assistant as a Mac application, expanding access for users within the Apple ecosystem. This native macOS app enables users to interact with the web-based version of Copilot seamlessly. The rollout is set to begin today across the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada.
The functionalities of the macOS application mirror those available on the web version of Copilot. However, the Mac app offers a unique feature: users can activate the AI assistant using the keyboard shortcut Command + Space. Additionally, it supports a dark mode for those who prefer a different visual experience.
On the heels of this launch, Microsoft also announced the introduction of two new features—Voice and Think Deeper—which leverage OpenAI’s advanced o1 model. Notably, these features will be available to all users at no cost, indicating Microsoft’s strategy to attract a wider audience to its Copilot tool.
Historically, big technology firms have faced challenges when adapting their software for competing platforms. The optimization process can often stretch for years, as companies work to ensure their services perform optimally on rival hardware. However, the swift release of a dedicated macOS app for Copilot, which previously launched on iPhone and iPad, marks a significant milestone for Microsoft and demonstrates its commitment to enhancing user accessibility within the Apple environment.
