Hull KR’s Mikey Lewis Dreams of NRL Future
Mikey Lewis has expressed a strong desire to play in the NRL, calling it a “dream” scenario, though the 23-year-old emphasizes that he is not in haste to leave his current club, Hull KR.
Lewis, who was honored with the Man of Steel award last season, continues to be a pivotal player for Hull KR this year, contributing significantly to their current position at the top of the league. His upcoming match against Leeds Rhinos on Friday will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
This season, Lewis has been in electrifying form, scoring 15 tries. As his profile in rugby league rises, he acknowledges his ambitions to challenge himself in the Australian league at some point in the future.
In an interview on The Bench, Lewis remarked, “My dream’s always to go over there, to Australia. When the time will come, it’ll come.” He added, “I just love watching the competition. It’s a fantastic league. Anyone can beat anyone.” This sentiment reflects his admiration for the competitive nature of the NRL.
Lewis further noted the marked differences between the rugby culture in Australia and that of the UK, highlighting both the lifestyle aspects and the general atmosphere surrounding the sport. Despite his ambitions for the future, he remains grounded, stating, “I’m not putting any pressure on it. I love playing at this club. It’s given me so much on the field and so much off it as well.”
Lewis Aiming for Grand Final Redemption
Currently signed with Hull KR until 2028, Lewis returned to action after an injury layoff during the recent match against rivals Hull FC, contributing to a 28-14 victory. His immediate focus is to address the disappointments from last year’s season when Hull KR fell short in the Grand Final against Wigan.
Since becoming a father for the first time, Lewis feels these recent life changes have prompted a sense of maturity. He shared, “Last year was a massive year for me, obviously, picking up that [Man of Steel] award. But I’d 100% change it for that Grand Final ring.” He reflected on how fatherhood has influenced his perspective, saying, “These last few months in becoming a dad, I’ve had to change a lot. My lifestyle is good, but I’ve got a son now, so he’s top priority.” Recognizing the challenges of growing up, he stated, “Just becoming a man, it can be difficult, but I’m enjoying the journey.”
Sky Sports will continue to provide live coverage of every Super League match this season, featuring two exclusive live matches in each round, with additional games available via Sky Sports+. Fans can catch the upcoming game where Leeds Rhinos will host Hull KR, live on Sky Sports Action at 7.30pm on Friday.
