Chelsea’s Millie Bright Achieves 200 WSL Appearances
Chelsea’s captain, Millie Bright, has marked a significant milestone by becoming the second player in the history of the Women’s Super League (WSL) to reach 200 appearances.
The 31-year-old defender achieved this notable feat during Chelsea’s impressive 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Wednesday.
Currently, the record for the most appearances in the WSL is held by Aston Villa’s Jordan Nobbs, who has played in each season of the WSL, totaling 207 games.
Bright began her WSL journey with Doncaster Belles in 2011, where she made her debut and subsequently featured in 32 matches over three seasons. After a year in the second division, she transferred to Chelsea before the start of the 2015 season, where she has since played an additional 168 matches over 11 seasons, establishing a record for Chelsea.
In a conversation with BBC Three, Bright expressed her surprise at the milestone. “I had no idea until Tuesday when I was told, so I was like, ‘OK’. I don’t focus much on individual statistics—I prioritize team performances and wins. It’s a significant achievement, and I feel really proud,” she noted.
Reflecting on her earlier days with Doncaster, Bright acknowledged the challenges she faced. “Looking back to those tough times with Doncaster, including some heavy losses, I learned a considerable amount. Those experiences have shaped me both as a player and a person,” she explained.
She also shared her thoughts on the evolution of the league, stating, “It’s been rewarding to witness the development of women’s football—from where we started to where we are today. The progress I’ve made individually is a testament to all the managers I’ve worked with, and I am looking forward to what lies ahead.”
Since joining Chelsea, Bright has contributed to the team’s success by winning seven WSL titles and taking on the role of club captain as of September 2023.
