Cody Bellinger Sidelined Due to Food Poisoning

In a surprising turn of events, Cody Bellinger, an outfielder for the New York Yankees, was unable to take the field against the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday as he battled food poisoning. Reports indicated that Bellinger suffered from severe nausea after consuming chicken wings the previous evening, leading to a restless night for the player. Yankees manager Aaron Boone confirmed the situation, noting that, as of now, no other team members have shown signs of illness.

“Hopefully he’s feeling a little bit better now, and we’ll see if we can get him going, make him somehow available as the game goes,” Boone stated, expressing hope for Bellinger’s recovery.

Bellinger’s absence from the game marked the third time in five matchups that he has been out of the lineup. Prior to this incident, he missed two games against the Pittsburgh Pirates due to discomfort from a stiff back. This season, Bellinger has participated in eight games, posting a batting average of .233, with one home run and six runs batted in (RBI). His versatility has seen him take positions in left, center, and right fields. With him sidelined, Trent Grisham stepped in, showcasing an impressive start to the season with a batting average of .423, including three home runs and nine RBIs.

The Yankees acquired Bellinger from the Chicago Cubs during the offseason, seeking to fill the gap left by Juan Soto’s departure to the New York Mets in free agency. Despite the shake-up in the lineup, the Yankees entered Tuesday’s game with a record of 6-4, currently leading the American League East.

On the mound for the Yankees was Carlos Carrasco, while the Tigers featured 2024 AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal as their starting pitcher.
