Mohanlal shares insights on Rajinikanth’s thoughts about L2: Empuraan’s trailer and the film’s budget.
Mohanlal’s much-anticipated film, L2: Empuraan, is scheduled for release on March 27.
The trailer for L2: Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, has received enthusiastic feedback from industry giants including SS Rajamouli, Prabhas, and Ram Gopal Varma. Notably, Rajinikanth publicly endorsed the trailer by revealing the Tamil version on social media, expressing his admiration with the words, “Watched the trailer of my dear Mohan’s and Prithvi’s film #Empuraan .. fantastic work, congratulations!!! I wish the team all the best for the release. God bless (sic).” In an exclusive conversation, Prithviraj disclosed the profound impact of Rajinikanth’s commendations on him.
In a recent interview with News18 Showsha, Mohanlal emphasized that the overwhelming support from fellow actors highlights the camaraderie within the film community, countering the notion of rivalry. He affectionately referred to Mammootty as a ‘brother’ and ‘family,’ while also acknowledging the kindness of Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth—both of whom he has collaborated with in the past.
Mohanlal remarked, “It’s not competition but appreciation. I sent the trailer to Amitabh Bachchan saab. Rajini sir called me, and I had a wonderful conversation with him. He said to me, ‘What have you done? Oh my god!’ Their compliments came from genuine appreciation for our work, rather than any competitive spirit. The investment we made in this film is evident, and as a producer himself, Rajini sir certainly appreciated this aspect.”
The acclaimed actor further elaborated, “He mentioned, ‘You all have spent so much on the film, and I can see that.’ His compliment wasn’t superficial; it was heartfelt and expressed after he viewed the trailer.” L2: Empuraan represents Mohanlal’s third collaboration with director Prithviraj, following successful projects like Lucifer and Bro Daddy.
Reflecting on the dynamic between an actor and director, Mohanlal stated, “An unspoken chemistry develops between us, whether consciously or not. Prithvi has a clear vision of what he desires, and when he requests additional shots, it energizes me to know there’s an opportunity to elevate my performance. It’s invigorating to hear such feedback from him or any director.”
Mohanlal, who has collaborated with Prithviraj’s father, Sukumaran, on several films, commented, “Typically, he communicates commands through a mic, but when he needs to discuss something specific with me, he approaches me directly so that his instructions remain discreet. He often says, ‘No no Chetta, you’ve done this but I want something different.’ There’s a beautiful understanding between us, and he feels free to express his aspirations for my performance. He’s also quite playful, but I can’t divulge any details about his mischievous side (laughs).”
