Morgan Wallen’s Sudden Exit from SNL Raises Questions
Morgan Wallen made headlines over the weekend with his unexpected departure from the Saturday Night Live stage during the credits. After performing his songs as the musical guest of the episode hosted by Oscar-winning actress Mikey Madison, Wallen leaned in to whisper something to her and then made a quick exit from Studio 8H, bypassing the customary post-performance greetings and farewells.
Shortly after his performance, Wallen took to Instagram Stories to share a photo of his private jet, captioning it “Get me to God’s country,” hinting at his desire to leave New York for home.
This hasty exit elicited reactions from both fans and critiques alike. To add a touch of humor to the situation, SNL writer Josh Patten poked fun at Wallen’s actions in his own Instagram Story. He posted an image of a Krispy Kreme donut truck with a similar caption as Wallen’s. In response to queries about his apparent lack of support for Wallen, Patten included an eye roll emoji in a playful retort.
Patten further demonstrated his mixed feelings about the country star by showcasing his Apple Music replay list for the year, revealing Wallen’s songs were included among tracks by other popular artists like Zach Bryan and Sam Hunt.
While Wallen performed tracks from his upcoming album, I’m the Problem, his swift departure was the primary focus of media speculation. At the time of reporting, Wallen had yet to address his sudden exit, which feels reflective of his generally tumultuous history with the show. His initially scheduled appearance on SNL in October 2020 was abruptly canceled due to his violation of COVID-19 protocols, leading to his eventual debut in December of that year. During that performance, he even participated in a sketch that humorously acknowledged the circumstances surrounding his initial cancellation.
