Mouni Roy addresses online criticism regarding her appearance and the impact of social media.
Mouni Roy has recently taken a stand against the negative commentary directed at her looks. After the trailer launch of her upcoming film, Bhootnii, alongside co-star Sanjay Dutt, the actress faced a wave of criticism on various social media platforms. Some commentators speculated about her altering appearance, while others claimed her “botox had gone wrong” or suggested she had undergone multiple cosmetic procedures.
In an interview with Zoom, Mouni reflected on the harsh judgment female actors endure regarding their physical appearance and fashion choices. Her insights shed light on the emotional toll that such scrutiny can impose.
“Initially, when I read those comments… sometimes I come across AI-generated videos of myself, and it feels wrong; it’s definitely cringe-inducing. It’s unsettling to see my face altered to fit someone else’s body. You have to wonder what motivates these people and what they aim to achieve. It seems all they collect are negative remarks and ill wishes, which is hardly constructive,” Mouni explained.
She further discussed how her perceptions of online negativity have shifted over time. “At first, I would take the time to block those who commented hatefully on my posts. Now, I feel a sense of pity for them. It’s clear to me that they are lurking behind screens, expressing unkind sentiments that don’t reflect well on them,” she noted.
Mouni emphasized that despite the negativity, it cannot overshadow the authentic affection she receives from her supporters. “Life can be seen in two ways—either as half-full or half-empty. I choose to focus on the love from my fans. The social media landscape has become an increasingly toxic space, where individuals often post hurtful things simply for attention and likes,” she stated.
