Mufasa: The Lion King Dominates Indian Box Office

Since its premiere on December 20, 2024, Mufasa: The Lion King has maintained a strong presence at the Indian box office, with earnings exceeding Rs 100 crore.

Continued Success Amid Competition

Despite fierce rivalry from Pushpa 2: The Rule, featuring Allu Arjun, Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King has not only held its ground but also achieved remarkable financial success in a relatively short period. The film crossed the Rs 100-crore threshold within just ten days, benefitting from the holiday season that bolstered audience attendance in the initial weeks. However, after the festive period, the film has experienced a slight decline in revenue.

The Hindi dubbed version features the iconic Shah Rukh Khan as the voice of Mufasa, alongside his sons Aryan Khan and AbRam Khan, who add a personal touch to the film.

Box Office Milestones

As reported by the trade website Sacnilk, Mufasa: The Lion King surpassed the lifetime earnings of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which recorded Rs 112.54 crore in India. The film is now positioned just behind the collections of Deadpool & Wolverine, which is at Rs 125 crore.

On the 14th day of its release, the film netted Rs 2.85 crore, thereby accumulating a total of Rs 50.3 crore in its second week. The Hindi version alone brought in Rs 1.25 crore, with additional earnings from English, Telugu, and Tamil versions.

In terms of total earnings for week two, the breakdown reveals Rs 19.2 crore from Hindi showings, Rs 15.15 crore from English, Rs 4.85 crore from Telugu, and Rs 11.1 crore from Tamil. Combined with the first week’s earnings of Rs 74.25 crore, the film has now crossed the Rs 125 crore mark in total collections.

The Journey of Mufasa

Opening to mixed reviews but steady growth, Mufasa: The Lion King debuted with Rs 8.3 crore on its first day. The film delves into the origins of Mufasa, Simba’s father, offering a deeper narrative derived from the cherished 1994 animated classic.

The supporting cast includes notable voices such as Sanjay Mishra as Pumba, Shreyas Talpade as Timon, Meiyang Chang as Taka, and Makarand Deshpande as Rafiki, bringing a diverse and rich voice ensemble to this prequel.

Mufasa’s journey from the big screen to box office success reflects Disney’s continued ability to resonate with audiences, reaffirming the enduring appeal of its storytelling heritage.
