Nico Muller Joins Andretti Global for 2024-25 Formula E Season

Nico Muller has officially signed with the Andretti Global Formula E team for the 2024-25 season, taking over from Norman Nato, who has departed after just one year with the team.

The Swiss driver’s appointment was confirmed by the American squad on Tuesday, following a period of speculation. Muller had previously announced his exit from Abt before the London season finale in July, paving the way for his new role.

During his two seasons with Abt, Muller showcased his talent by consistently achieving points finishes, including four consecutive strong performances in the latter part of the previous season. His efforts culminated in a total of 48 more points than his teammate and 2016/17 champion, Lucas di Grassi, demonstrating his competitiveness on track.

Nato’s tenure with Andretti was relatively brief, as he managed to secure only one podium while finishing five points behind Muller in the driver standings, despite having access to a more competitive car package.

In the recently concluded season, team member Jake Dennis clinched the drivers’ title for Andretti, a customer team of Porsche. Meanwhile, Pascal Wehrlein emerged victorious in the championship while driving for the factory Porsche team.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Muller stated, “I’m very excited to join the Andretti Formula E team. It’s a team that has experienced considerable success since the championship’s inception, especially during this Gen3 era in collaboration with Porsche Motorsport.” He went on to express eagerness to work alongside Dennis, noting the honor of teaming with a former world champion. “I’m determined to contribute to the team’s success and aim for podiums and, ideally, my first Formula E win,” he added.

Muller’s move to Andretti comes on the heels of speculation regarding a potential seat with Porsche, especially following a private test he conducted for the automotive brand earlier this season. The rumor mill had been abuzz with thoughts of Antonio Felix da Costa’s position within Porsche, as he had faced challenges in early races. Despite this, da Costa managed to turn his fortunes around, winning four out of five races last season, which reinforced his position for the upcoming year.

However, da Costa has expressed a desire to participate again in the World Endurance Championship, while Muller will not return to that series after stepping down from his Peugeot role. This situation could leave the door open for Muller to join Porsche in the 2025-26 season, conditional on an impressive performance in his first year with Andretti.

Michael Andretti, the team’s CEO, emphasized the expectations for the upcoming season, stating, “We’re confident that adding a driver of Nico’s caliber will help us achieve our goals.” He acknowledged Muller’s extensive experience and success in various racing series as valuable assets as the team seeks to bolster its competitive lineup.

“We’re looking forward to seeing what Nico can accomplish as we continue to pursue wins and world championships,” Andretti remarked, underlining the team’s ambition in the evolving landscape of Formula E.
