Emergency services are currently addressing a boat collision that resulted in multiple injuries near Clearwater, Florida. The precise number of casualties has not yet been confirmed; however, the local fire department classified the situation as a mass casualty incident, according to authorities.
Reports indicate that at least two individuals sustained serious injuries and were airlifted to medical facilities. The Clearwater Police Department revealed that a Clearwater Ferry, which was carrying over 40 passengers, collided with another vessel that subsequently left the scene. All injured individuals were aboard the ferry, which eventually settled on a sandbar located just south of the Memorial Causeway bridge. Thankfully, all passengers, including those who were hurt, have been safely evacuated from the ferry.
The U.S. Coast Guard has stated that the other vessel involved was a recreational boat.
The Clearwater Memorial Causeway bridge serves as a vital connection between Clearwater and Clearwater Beach.
